5. Attracting & Addressing Audiences
I have gradually been able to identify the best way in which to attract and address the audience for my film. I have researched various companies such as Warp as well as looking at specific and very popular films such as the franchise The Hunger Games. This is an example of a Hollywood blockbuster and it is part of a mega-franchise. Films such as this gain more money as they are able to produce merchandise to attract audiences. The distributors for the film use tools such as trailers, P&A, film websites and also make use of social media to communicate and engage with the audience. Social media sites used include Facebook and twitter.
Based on this I have considered how I could do the same thing in order to attract an audience for my film. Therefore I have set out to make sure I have a twitter and Facebook account for our film. We've also used Instagram to do this. I created a mock up for a website so demonstrate how we could use this to provide more information. Using this sort of tool is helpful as it involves the audience as they can investigate the film by using links provided such as exclusive videos. They are also referred to other sites such as the social media links we have.
Our target audience is made up of young adults who would be likely to have interest in our film as the main character is of a relatable age (17 years old). The character is vulnerable and also fierce and brave as she attempts to escape from her captor. The subject is interesting and appealing for teenagers as it is filled with suspense and the fear of being culnerbale when younger is shared by most young people. I have also looked into the most popular genre for teenagers and it is apparent that teenagers and young adults enjoy thriller and action films or programmes.
My film opening, I feel, would be successful in capturing the attention of my intended audiences as it is fast paces and exciting. It includes various shots and angles and the editing makes the opening tense and exciting. The speed increases the tension and the flashbacks are edited to show the difference between the reality of the escape and the flashbacks of the girls capture. It's visually appealing and interesting. The suspense is very appealing and it is filled with mystery as the opening concludes with the sound of a gun shot.
We made a Facebook page to grab the attention of our target audience. Facebook is a great opportunity for us to gain feedback as people can like or comment on our posts. It's possible to invite people to comment or like and also to share videos and thus this would gain more attention for our film. The site makes it an interactive way to show audiences our film. Regular updates are important on our facebook page so that we keep the attention of our audience.
Using Instagram has been a great social media site to interact with our audience. We have been able to easily take photos whilst filming and upload them with speed and ease on to Instagram. It has involved our audience as it has shown the way in which our group has worked together and revealed small sections of our work so that people become interested and aware that the film opening is being created.
The website I have ceated is a digital form of ditribution. Using a website allows people to be able to find out more about the film. Information is stored in various pages within the website so that the revelant topics, photos and videos can be foud all in one place with ease. It is appealing to many as it is easy to acess and compatible with other technologies such as the iPad or iPhone.
WEBSITE
We have created a website for our film in order to address our audience's needs. The intentionswere to create a fun and interactive website for our audience to enjoy using and discover further information about our film. It is considered a digital form of distribution and is appealing to our audience.
TWITTER
Twitter is an interactive way once again to share information about our film. We have been avle to post relevant information on twitter and post regular updates and tweets with images so that our audience is aware of our film. People can retweet posts and also favourite them showing how an audience can become involved with this.
POSTER
As a group we also all constructed a poster together Photoshop was used to create it after we did a photo shoot with the main character. Using photoshop enables us to create a better quality poster with attention to detail. We were able to create a poster that was visually appealing and eye-catching and it was important that it provided key information, The poster was also a aw way o provide information for the audience such as the genre of the film which could persuade more of audience to watch it.
